Friends of the Woods Internships and Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities

Friends of the Woods has on-site volunteer opportunities available from May-October of every year. Our volunteer days are coupled with training that teaches participants a variety of skills. Volunteers get a chance to plant bulbs, repave trails, cultivate soil, paint structures and much more. They also get a chance to meet a group of amazing people and share in good conversation. Internships

FOTW offers part time volunteer internship opportunities throughout the year.

College credit can be arranged.

A minimum of 5 hours a week is required; however, this commitment is flexible.

Prospective interns should be team playing, enthusiastic and flexible individuals who possess or seek a working knowledge of  environmental issues, community developments or relationship building and want to be part of a fun, young organizations with many hands on opportunities. Interns should also be committed to promoting the efforts of Friends of the Woods and believe in our mission.

Reference lets are available upon request and college credit can be arranged.

The following internships are currently available:

General Operations Intern

This position will help with the day to day operation of the organization. They will answer emails, post for events, create fliers, create email, maintain the mailing list, etc. This person must have great relationship building and communication skills. They need to be flexible and detailed oriented as well. This intern works closely with the FOTW board.

Marketing Intern

This position is responsible for promoting the efforts and events of Friends of the Woods. This position will be a quick learner, have a good research skills and great organization skills. They will promote events online and build relationships with local business that will promote the organization events. This person should have great communication skills.

Public Relationship Intern

This position is responsible for finding opportunities that will give Friends of the Woods more exposure. You will research media ops, learn how to write a press release, maintain a press kit and database. This person must be creative, work well under pressure and have strong communication skills.

Horticulture Intern

This position is responsible for identifying plant life that is native to University Woods. This person will work closely with volunteers to improve the decorative qualities of the various entrance ways at University Woods. They will also maintain a log of the plant life added to the woodland.
